The Arts Council offers a unique and educational after school program for Madison County students in grades 1 - 5 (see individual class descriptions). Classes are from 3:30 – 5:00pm, Monday – Friday, pick up is by 5:15. Supervised homework time is offered prior to and after instructional time. We provide classes in areas of dance, theatre, visual arts, creative writing, and music. The program is tuition based. Contact the Arts Council for more information – 859-624-4242.

Fun With the Arts is a tuition based program with fees based on the number of classes selected. Pre-registration and a deposit is required to enroll in the program. To sign up, follow the steps below.

Arts Around the World
Take at trip around the world without leaving your desk! Come Join us as we experience, tastes, and sounds of South and Central America. You will see great works of art, food and the colorful culture that is from Central and South America. You don’t have to pack your suitcase for this trip!

Clogging
Come join us as we learn how to the traditional dance of Appalachia. In this lively class you will learn traditional and nontraditional; all set to lively music that will get you on your feet and moving.

Guitar
Beginning guitar (grades 3-5.) No previous experience necessary! Learn the basics of the guitar. Each student must supply his/her own instrument.

Pottery
Express yourself with clay! Learn hand building techniques, and ways of using glazes and creative designs to turn clay into pottery. We’ll work clay to create functional or seasonal pieces of art. You will have glaze and bisque fired pieces to take home.

Actors Tool Kit
Want to act? Have fun and learn how to express yourself as an actor. You will be introduced to the basics of comedy and drama.

Strings I
Are you interested in playing the violin? Then this class is for you! You will be introduced to the basics of stringed instruments, and gain a greater knowledge of the sound that can be created from the instruments.

Strings II
Have you had Violin Lessons before? Progression will take place at a faster pace, as students will learn to play longer, more advanced pieces of music. This class is offered only to those with prior violin experience, and placement in this class must be determined by the beginning strings instructor.

Earth Matters
Create artwork using various types of mixed media from nature. We will look at techniques from very famous artists and explore their styles. Come ready to create art and explore possibilities. You will build , paint, and construct colorful works of art to enjoy for years to come.

Creative Writing
If you love making magic with words, then this creative writing class is for you. You will have the opportunity to explore different types of writing, with an emphasis on poetry. Your work will be published in your own bound book. The class will have a “poetry slam.”
